Two years ago today, I launched Catch: Jewish Canadian Ideas, as an effort to inject fresh new ideas into Canada’s Jewish community.
Today, I want to mark this anniversary by thanking everyone who is already a subscriber, and for all those of you who have supported my writing - and the writings of others that I have posted - over the last two years.
A lot of work goes into keeping this site relevant and current, and it is a privilege to be just one voice in the symphony of voices within our incredible community in Toronto.
To that end, here’s my humble ask:
If you are a reader, consider becoming a subscriber.
If you are a subscriber, consider gifting a subscription to a friend, colleague, or co-worker who may be interested in my work.
If you can share a piece that I’ve written on your social media (Facebook, IG, Twitter) or the site more broadly, and encourage others to subscribe, please do.
On Jan 1 of this year, I also started a “Today in Israel’s history” video post - one a day, every day - throughout 2025. If you are interested in learning more about Israel’s history, you can follow it here.
Year ahead
I very much want our community to be one of ideas. One that keeps thinking about how to deal with today’s and tomorrow’s challenges, and how to make sure that our kids can benefit from the remarkable neighbourhood that we have grown around them. There is no shortage of challenges that we face, but we can only succeed if we do so together on the high and righteous path.
My Substack app tells me that I am read across 29 US states and 27 countries. That I have significant audience overlap with such incredible other substacks as The Free Press, Future of Jewish, Israel from the Inside, and State of Tel Aviv. That I have almost 1,000 subscribers, many of whom are paid (thank you!), and that in the last 30 days, I’ve had 13,471 views of my posts. To-date, I have written 96 different and unique posts - that’s almost one a week - with no intention of slowing down.
In the coming year, I hope to continue to write as often as I can, trying to bring a fresh new perspective to Canadian Jewish life, and to elaborate on our role as a Diaspora community. I hope to continue to share guest voices as well, and welcome new and unique views and bold ideas that I can share too. I welcome all comments, feedback, questions, and would love to hear from you below what you’d like to see in the coming year, and what I can do better.
I am also excited to announce that I’ve recently finished writing a book about the Diaspora and our connection to Israel, and G-d willing, will be able to share that with everyone in the coming year! (If anyone knows anyone in the book industry, send them my way!)
Otherwise, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the constant support and feedback. I look forward to what the year ahead brings, to the defeat of our enemies, to peace in Israel, and to a strengthened and emboldened Canadian Jewish community.
Am Yisrael Chai.
Keep up the amazing work!! Love reading your articles!
