So faklempt! I have always cried when I landed in Israel and cried while taking off… Such a wonderful warm article! It’s so important for us all to connect on this level right now! Israel is our home….America turned away boatloads of our relatives….young Jews don’t know about the signs on Miami Beach that read, “No Dogs, No Jews…”
Actually, I am reconsidering your interpretation of the smirk. Gadi is known for always smiling and I wonder if his friends consider this a smile. Smiling/smirking may be a psychological defense mechanism hiding uncomfortable feelings, in this case, fear. I can only imagine that he was feeling overwhelming terror, surrounded by those armed-to-the-teeth terrorists, wondering if he was even going to make it out of there. A lynch, if started, would not have been able to be stopped.
I thought about that as well…the sabra toughness not letting anyone know they got to you…but the sentiment is just so lovely- the story in the Mekane Yehuda…
The mench and the monsters
The apple of God’s eye. Hashem bless the Israeli people. 💞💞💞
Jewish humor and satire is one of a kind.
Thank you for this brilliantly insightful piece!
Love it. Hope they all come home like that.

Yes that is a smirk!
Great article.
I believe a smirk was also seen on Yafa Adar’s face as she was stolen away from Nir Oz on a golf cart! A sign of the resilience within. 🇮🇱
