Very well stated. I think that’s part of why I have become more level headed not just because I have deeply learned the history, but because I have picked up more of our religious traditions and thus the conflict framing isn’t as load-bearing
The REASON Jews in Canada feel threatENED and unprotected is that we ARE BOTH UNDER THREAT AND UNPROTECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT. Every year, our synagogue hosts two Israeli recent high school graduates, who spend their gap year living and serving Jewish communities around the world. We had two such students when October 7 happened. And in the years since. Part of the arrangement is they return to their homes several times during their stint in Canada to spend time with family. To a person when they return to Canada, they tell us it is way worse here than in Israel! They don’t fear in Israel because, flawed, though it may be. they know with total confidence that their government does everything they can to protect them. They have shelters. they have verbal and political support. Canada has impressive and numerous anti-terrorism laws, None of which were enforced!! starting with October 8!CSIS didn’t know the massive terrorist attack was coming. The Mossad didn’t know! The CIA didn’t know. Yet on October 8 at Canadian universities and then Canadian streets people were equipped with flags, masks and Kafes. Since ONLY THE TERRORISTS KNEW AHEAD OF TIME, HOW DID THEY KNOW?❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓
And still there was NO RCMP NOR CSIS INVESTIGATION IMMEDIATELY DEPLOYED! Though the administering of student visas and antiterrorism are BOTH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBILITIES and university administrators have neither training nor responsibility the LIBERAL government abdicated all possible actions! We knew something was OFF/ wrong. We felt it in our bones but couldn’t put our finger on it . but we see it clearly now! 18 year-old students from Israel noticed that even with bombs raining down on them and Savage terrorists attacking them, they felt less threatened and less vulnerable because they knew their government would do everything possible to protect them! And we saw that our government refused to do anything to protect us. However they spoke to protect the rights of terrorist threats, including the student manifesto, coming out of the SJP organization, threatening our lives when they put in writing their Support of the Hamas attack, rape, atrocities, and kidnapping m; all illegal in Canada last time I checked! Who did our government protect? the terrorists and their supporters? This is not an opinion. twice the leaders of Hamas thanked Canada for their support: publicly! We said “never again” to the Nazis. Now we have to say “never again” to the LIBERAL government of Canada. ONCE AGAIN ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY AND MORALITY.
